Oxford Green Spaces Sponsored Walk
On Sunday June 27th this year the opening of a brand new circular walk for Oxford City will be celebrated by a sponsored walk for the public. The initiative for the creation of this designated circular route has come from citizen groups who are committed to preserving the open green spaces of Oxford City. The new route, created by the Ramblers Association and CPRE city district, will link up numerous inner-Oxford green areas, some of them possibly unknown to the average Oxfordian.
The sponsored walk on June 27th is in support of two campaigns to save specific green spaces as Town Greens for the public: Warneford Meadow and Oxpens Meadow. Both these lovely spots will be highlights along the sponsored walk. On each meadow special activities, refreshments and information about the campaigns will be available on the day. The beneficiaries of the sponsored walk, organised by CPRE will be the Warneford Meadow and Oxpens Meadow groups and CPRE.
This is the first time that an inner-city Oxford Green Spaces Walk has been created. It will stretch from North Oxford’s Trap Grounds (already a Town Green) along the canal and Mill Stream to the Oxpens Meadow, then through green spaces eastwards up to Warneford Meadow and along unsuspected green stretches back to the Trap Grounds.
A walker’s map with points of interest along the route and useful information such as bus stops is being drawn up. The full length of the circular route is nine miles, but participants on the sponsored walk can choose to walk only a section of it if they prefer.
There will be more information closer to the time about this sponsored walk and how people can take part in it.
